York vs Sheffield

Sunday saw the York unions season kick off with their first match against Sheffield around Fulford. With 7 of the York players from Fulford this was a great match to watch and home advantage was key. Sheffield are known as the best union in Yorkshire because of the amount of clubs in their district compared to York being the smallest. However, this didn't concern our players as they soldiered through to win 19-17.

This was down to team work and great preparation, credit due to Martin Greaves the new York Captain who got his team motivated and prepared for the long day. This is a great achievement and was helped I'm sure by the late departed Russ Chilton who was captain of York for many years.



Lombard Trophy

On Saturday we had our 1st round qualifier for the victory cup and alongside this we ran the chance for one of the members to play alongside myself in the Lombard Trophy Pro Am. 

This competition was eagerly contested and came down to two 68s shot by Ian Darby and Tim Bradshaw. However, Ian was to pip Tim on the back 9 to clinch victory and win a day out playing with myself. The Lombard is a very prestigious PGA event and I'm sure Ian and I will give our best to try and advance to the finals.

Brabazon Trophy

This week we welcome players from across the country to play in the Brabazon northern qualifier, this event run by England golf sees over 120 players fighting for spots in the Brabazon stroke play championship later in the year. 

On Monday the practice rounds got underway and watching how top players prepare for a championship was very interesting (lots of different contraptions on the putting green). 

This is a part of the game that many of us forget about. However, the importance of a warm up is vital to a good round. This is the type of information we teach during lessons, including correct warm up techniques and drills.
