R&A British Amateur Boys Championship

Last week Charlie Thornton entered the British amateur boy's championship hosted by the R&A. The event was played at Muirfield and The Renaissance golf clubs. The first stage of the Championship involves 252 players each of whom plays two rounds of 18 holes, one to be played on each of the two courses. 

The 64 lowest scores over the 36 holes and ties for 64th place will compete in the match play stage of the Championship. Each match consisted of one round of 18 holes except the Final which will be over 36 holes. 

Charlie was very successful after narrowly making the cut and excelled in this format as he reached the quarter final stages (last 8). Charlie was narrowly beaten in the quarter finals on the last hole losing 1 down to the eventual winner. To put this on a scale on how well he has done, Charlie now tops the England Boys Order of Merit. A top achievement, well done Charlie.

   

Arthur Brown Trophy 

The latest board competition to take place was the Arthur Brown Trophy. With such strong winds throughout the day didn't really reflect on how well the scoring was. The format was a 4BBB medal from the white tee's. 

The clubs double act Carl Tyrer and Jon Ward (Ben & Jerry) were victorious this week with a tremendous better ball score of 61 narrowly pipping Aaron Crawford & Leigh Machen on 62. Well done lads.
