Junior golf

Junior Coaching

Junior GolfWith the school holidays almost over and after very successful Junior summer coaching camps, Dan has a 'Back to School' weekly coaching course starting from the 18th September comprising over 6 weeks. Places are restricted to first come first served basis and with a maximum of 8 pupils. Cost per child £50.00.

HSBC Golf Roots is the Golf Foundation's national programme to enhance the lives of young people through playing golf.

Within that, the Junior Golf Passport is the national structured learning programme for children aged 6-12 years, endorsed by the PGA. The multi-layered programme progresses a complete novice golfer into a junior golfer ready for membership at a golf club.

The programme has 3 key levels: START, LEARN and PLAY. The START level is all about fun and an elementary introduction to golf. The LEARN level is a move towards technical instruction through games based learning, always with the emphasis on fun. The PLAY level teaches the child to apply their learning to the golf course, preparing them for potential club membership and competition. However, access to the golf course and playing golf on a course are important features of the Junior Golf Passport from the START in order to develop a real connection to golf.

Competition news

Benson and Hedges

On Saturday the weather was not on our side and with wind and rain hitting the course, however this didn't effect some of the best scoring we have seen this year. Firstly, Mark Christie came in with a gross 71, he was then followed by Matthew Kelly with a gross 70. However, these scores weren't good enough to take the prized Benson and Hedges trophy. That honour was given to Matthew Hull who scored a fantastic 71 gross for a nett 66, this included a 2 on one of the hardest hole on the course, the 13th. Great scores guys and well done to Matthew Hull, we will see you at the prize giving.

Lindrick Pro-Am

LindrickLast week Dan teamed up with Jon Ward, Carl Tyrer and Tim Bradshaw in Lindricks 125th Anniversary year. With the format best 2 from 4 stableford and with over 40 teams competing from the county the team were raring to go. With a solid opening first 9 score of 43pts left the team from Fulford with a fighting chance. Half time refreshments went to the team's heads it would seem, as only Tim scored on the next hole which pegged the team back and finished the back nine with 37 points leaving the team 6 points behind the leaders on 80pts. Nevertheless, a great day out in what was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

If you wish to enter a team in any of the regions Pro-Am's with almost one a week, then please speak to member of the team for more details. We are always seeking members to play and represent Fulford at many venues across Yorkshire and the North of England.

The Kelly's Yorkshire Triumph

FulfordLast week our very own David Kelly and grandson Tom Kelly were winners of the Yorkshire county members meeting at Skipton Golf Club. They achieved this with a great score of 44 points and beat many pairs from all over Yorkshire to the title. This is a great achievement and it is always great seeing different generations playing alongside each other. See the picture, where you can see David and Tom picking up their prizes from Fulford member and Yorkshire President Jonathan Plaxton, along with Skipton Golf Clubs captain.

Ladies Competitions

Congratulations to Avril Towers who triumphed in the David Melville trophy by six shots with an excellent Nett 68. Well Done.
