York Union Team Championship
On Sunday the York Union Team Championships were held at Heworth Golf Club. With teams of 4 competing from every club in York for the title, it was going to be tough for our lads. Our team this year was James Cass, Josh Plaxton, Tom Kelly and Ciaran Matthews. Foursomes medal in the morning saw James Cass and Ciaran Matthews come in with the best score of 70 (+1), then followed by Josh and Tom with a 79. This left us 1 shot behind the leaders Pike Hills.
In the afternoon, individual medal took place with all 4 scores counting. To win the title 4 good scores were needed. Out first was Tom and he got us of to a great start with a score of 73, he was then followed by Josh with a 75. With 2 good scores secured it was down to James and Ciaran to bring it home. Fortunately, they did what was needed with a 73 from James and a 79 from Ciaran Fulford were named champions. Well done guys.
Junior John Norris Trophy
On Sunday the juniors had one of their junior majors, the John Norris Trophy. With a great turn out the competition was fierce. In the green and yellow competition a new course record was set from none other than Finlay Johnson who scored 90 from the green tees, well done Finlay keep up the good work.
As for the main competition this year's winner with a fantastic gross score of 73 for a nett 69 was George Robson, this comes the day after victory in the Silver Jubilee match play. George is certainly the player to beat at the moment. Well done to all who played.
Charlie Conquers England
With Juniors doing so well this week we thought you would all like to know that Charlie Thornton was confirmed to be the winner of the England boys order of merit 2016. This is a great achievement and makes Charlie one of the best Juniors in the country.
Following his success with the order of merit he has been given a sponsors invite to the Daily Telegraph Junior Championships in Quinta do Lago on the 31st October. This competition will also be shown on sky sports at some point during the winter, we will try our best to keep you posted on when this will air. Well done Charlie, flying the flag for Fulford.
