Nick at the Open

Many of you may remember a previous assistant of mine Nick Jennings. Nick now works as Assistant Professional at Royal Birkdale Golf Club which hosted the open championship this week. With an odd number of players qualifying for the final two days the R&A had to find someone to mark the card for the first tee time.

This honour went to Nick on the Sunday and he managed to play with a Masters champion, Danny Willett. Nick can now say he has played on the final day of an Open and will have some fantastic memories of that day. We would like to wish Nick all the best in his future at Birkdale and that he is always welcome here at Fulford.

York Ladies Amateur Championship

On Sunday, Forest Park Golf Club hosted the York union ladies’ championships and with three prizes on offer, there was plenty to play for. However, the big one was the Amateur Champion, this went to the lowest gross score on the day. This year our very own Helen Barugh won with a 75, winning by two shots she was crowned champion of York.

In the silver division the lowest nett won, and in this case, we managed another Fulford Winner. Evelyn Low shot a superb 77 gross for a 67 nett, eventually winning by five shots from her nearest competitor.

These are fantastic results from two of our lady members, well done from all of us here in the professional shop.

That's got some face on it

It’s hard not to be in awe of the putting we see on TV, especially when the world’s best are competing for a major like at last week’s Open Championship. Yes, their strokes are close to perfect, but today’s putters also have a lot of technology in the face to aid the smooth roll they all love to put on the ball.
