Benson and Hedges This week’s competition news comes from one of the club’s Majors; The Benson and Hedges. The trophy still has the likes of Torrence, Norman, Trevino and many more players for all them years ago. Martin Pickles can now add himself to that list as a Benson and Hedges winner, Martin probably had the easier conditions going off in the afternoon with the winds troubling the morning starters, Martin came in with a nett 69 to win by one stroke. Well done. Charlie puts in a good show at Lee Westwood Trophy Last week the Lee Westwood trophy was played at Rotherham golf club, this is a very prestigious event and attracts some very good players from around the country. It was no surprise that one of our own Charlie Thornton was playing, along with James Cass, Craig Smith and Ben Plaxton. With it being a four round event, there was a cut after the first two rounds. Charlie was our only Fulford player to make the cut and with a second round score of 66, he was placed very well at third. Two more solid rounds followed, but unfortunately only managed a respectful second place. I will let Charlie explain what happened in the message below. His caddy was George Robson. "Well it's been an interesting week! I finished second in the Lee Westwood trophy, I was five behind going into the last round, I managed to get one a one shot lead with two to play. Then on the 17th, I flew my ball into the long grass and accidentally stood on it while looking for it, which ended up resulting in a one shot penalty and me making a triple. Lessons learned and a big thanks to my caddy George." |
