The week is finally here as we welcome over 90 competitors from around the world for the first U16 Girls Open Championship here Fulford, spectators are more than welcome! We hope you all have a great week.

George needs your help...

On Tuesday 8th May George will be doing his final practical PGA exam at Cookridge hall where he must conduct a 30 minute lesson. However, he must provide a pupil on the day. The requirements of the pupil must be someone who can shoot between 80-100 on a regular basis. If you’re interested in helping George out and receiving a FREE 30-minute lesson from a year 3 PGA student then please click here. You will only be needed for the morning so would not take up much of your time.

Competition news

1st Round Presidents Putter

On Saturday we held the 1st round of the Presidents Putter, with the course still playing very long it was not easy out there despite the nice warm weather we have finally been waiting for. This warm weather must of inspired Matt Kelly, shooting a great score of 68, 4 under par playing off scratch, to win by one from Nick Dyson finishing on 69, well done Matt on claiming your 1st win of the season (must be the gins).

R&A Spring event

On Tuesday the R&A held their annual spring event. This is a four man competition played in great spirit each year. This years winners were Tony Hinder, Gordon Topping, John Bullock and Chris Marshall with 87 points. This years Captain Paul and his team managed to pinch second place. Well done to all who played. A special mention to Bill Hamilton who won the nearest the pin on the 14th in dramatic style with a hole in one. Congratulations Bill.

Juniors

Sunday we had a junior event as the race for the Junior OOM heats up, with young George Robson shooting a 42 points stableford score to move him to a handicap of 1, Runner up was another Kelly, this time by Matt’s eldest Tom Kelly shooting 37 points. Well done George, superb score.

Club Match vs Oakdale

On Sunday, Fulford went up against Oakdale in a club match. Playing at home they certainly had the advantage. This showed when the team won comprehensively 6-2. Congratulations to all who played and to Captain Paul for an enjoyable day.

Urethane cover? So what...

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…

Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots.

However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative.
