McKenzie Salver On Monday we held our annual Yorkshire Order of Merit competition, The McKenzie Salver. This is a 36-hole scratch event. With around 50 players from around Yorkshire playing everyone knew it was going to be a tough school. We had a few of our lads playing, the likes of Damon Coulson, Charlie Thornton, James Cass, Rob Moore and Jamie Miller. Taking the early lead was our own Jamie Miller with a round of 68, closely followed by Charlie Thornton with a 69. |
|
The 2nd round came and unfortunately Charlie started to slide away from contention with a score of 76, this meant a good round from Jamie and he would be crowned champion. That’s exactly what happened, he shot a 70 to win the trophy by 1 shot from Daniel Thomas with Damon Coulson in 3rd place.
Congratulations Jamie on a great win. You can see the 1st part of the leader board below. |
Team Championship
On Sunday the York union Scratch Team Championships took place at Scarthingwell Golf Club.
This is the end of season competition where all the scratch teams in York come together and play 36 holes. 18 holes of foursomes medal and 18 holes single stroke play.
This year our team consisted of Damon Coulson, Rob Moore, George Robson and Tom Kelly. As you would expect we put in a good showing and after the morning foursomes we were in prime position.
With Damon then shooting a gross 70 the trophy was in sight, the lads managed to get the win. A big congratulations to the lads and a great way to end the scratch league. Please see the link below for a more detailed account of the day from the York union.

Saturday’s winner was David Mitchell with a great score of 67 closely followed by Andrew George in 2nd place with a 68.
Well done guys on some great scoring. The full result of The President’s Putter over the 2 rounds will be posted shortly.
Alongside The Presidents Putter we had a yellow tee stableford which was won by George Alexander with a round of 42 points.
Well done George.

The Ted Kendall Trophy
On Saturday, Pike Hills Golf Club hosted the annual Ted Kendall Trophy. This competition sees many juniors from clubs all around Yorkshire pair up and play against other clubs to try and win the trophy.
The Fulford juniors have been very successful in winning this trophy since it started four years ago, and once again this year, Charlie Tunstall and Lewis West reclaim the prize and the keep the run of success going.
Lewis and Charlie scored a fantastic 44 points between them, this really shows how well they work as a team and how they both contributed to the score. A massive well done to them.
We saw many more of our juniors take part in the competition as the girls paired together to give it ago and the boys paired up separately also.
Throughout the day there were some great scores in the 40’s and some scores in the high 30’s. I’m sure it was a very enjoyable day with some fantastic golf being played.

We stock an extensive range in-store so if you like the look of what you see next week, be sure to pop in to take a look. |

Cleveland has been at the forefront of wedge design for many years and has used feedback from its tour players to make the RTX 4 wedge its best yet. It provides more spin than ever before, is more versatile than previous generations and has never felt so good off the face. |

Key features at Le Golf National For the first time in the history of The Ryder Cup, the tournament will be being held in France at Le Golf National. Opened in 1990, the course has a reputation for being one of the most demanding on the European Tour. We take a look at some of the key features of the par 72, 7,331 yard course which could prove pivotal in the quest for victory. Water – it’s everywhere The first thing you’ll notice when you’re watching The Ryder Cup this year is how much water is on the course. It’s there for a reason, the clay silt of the Parisian basin means that without the man-made lakes the course would be extremely boggy and muddy after rain. It makes numerous appearances throughout, featuring on no fewer than 10 holes, including three of the last four. This will make players on both sides think about club choice, with a driver off the tee not being the most sensible solution on most occasions. The 18th We just mentioned how tough the last four holes are and it doesn’t get any tougher than the intimidating 18th. You’ll need a long and accurate tee shot to allow yourself a short club into the island green. Too far left and you’ll be in the drink, but stray to the right and you’ll find yourself in some seriously thick rough. It’s a serious test under any circumstance, factor in the tension which The Ryder Cup brings and it turns into an absolute monster of a hole. |

Hard work pays off... The last Major of the LPGA season for 2018 was played over the course of last week, with American Angela Stanford coming out on top. Stanford finished on -12 to win the Evian Championship, one shot ahead of compatriot Amy Olson, who double-bogeyed the last. Stanford's first Major win comes at the age of 40, proving that determination and desire does eventually pay off. |
With the Ryder Cup coming up next week, we can expect plenty of tense moments, particularly on the greens. You’ll probably notice that players on both sides will have the ability to hole out under huge amounts of pressure – who can forget Ian Poulter’s clutch putt on the 16th green at Medinah in 2012? |
Find a putter you can trust To replicate these kind of putts, whether that's in the monthly medal or playing for money with your friends, you need to choose a flatstick you can trust. Why not try out the PING Vault 2.0 Dale Stealth putter? It's a conventional shaped putter so will suit those of you looking for a classic option, and is also available in both Platinum and Copper finishes. If you have a slightly arced stroke, then we couldn't recommend this putter enough. |
