Winter Greensomes The Winter Greensomes event was played on Sunday with some contrasting weather. It couldn’t seem to make its mind up whether to rain or shine. Despite this, there were some great scores in the format where both players tee off and choose the best drive; where they then play alternate shots from then on. Congratulations goes to Ian Bainbridge and Geoff Grant who managed to score a fantastic 45 points. Well done guys. |
East Riding Alliance On Wednesday 4th November, East Riding Alliance event of the winter took place at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club. The East Riding Alliance is a series of events that bring together the golf clubs in the East Riding District with each club allocated several pairs to represent them. This time around, Gary Ratcliffe and Rob Whiteley were paired together along with Jon Ward and Luke Smith. Gary and Rob stole the show with a fantastic score of 63 betterball. This was looking like it would be good enough to win the competition until the last group came in and pipped them by one shot. However, congratulations guys on a great score and for giving Fulford a few extra points in the Order of Merit.

Do you know how far you hit your clubs? Have you ever been on the golf course and just thought to yourself; “I have no idea what club to hit here”. Well, the days of this happening are over. Having a simple GAP test with our PGA professionals will confirm exactly what distance each club is hit and will take any doubt the player has when hitting a ball on the golf course. We will also go into areas such as how the weather effects the distance the golf balls goes, and what distance difference there is between a draw and a fade.

Westwood wins again Lee Westwood rolled back the years to claim his first European Tour title since 2014, as he shot a flawless final round of 64 to win the Nedbank Challenge. The Englishman carded six birdies and an eagle on Sunday, finishing three shots clear of overnight leader Sergio Garcia, who finished on 12-under. Westwood, who is a former World Number One, mentioned in his post-round interview that he has "got a bit of a process" he’s going through with his golf swing, which is helping him see and hit better shots. It goes to show that it’s never too late to make swing changes, even if you’re a top golfer.

Just remarkable... With the new Rules of Golf coming into play in January 2019, it’s more important than ever to pay close attention to the laws of the game; something which European Tour hopeful Gian-Marco Petrozzi found out the hard way last week. Petrozzi missed out on a potential place in the final stage of Q-School, after being penalised two strokes for ‘improving his line of play’. The Englishman was playing his final hole and had to hit a shot over a fairway bunker – to pace his yardage, he walked through the bunker and then raked his footprints in the sand before hitting his shot, resulting in an infringement of Rule 13-2 (improving your line of play). If you’re ever unsure of a ruling whilst out on the course, be sure to give the pro shop a call or come and speak to us after your round.

When you're playing golf during the winter, your shots don't carry as far or roll out as much as they would in the summer. It's just a fact of life. It also means that judging distances to the green becomes a lot trickier, with many amateur golfers coming up a little short with approach shots. Have you noticed this trend in your own game recently? |
| Step 1: Gapping session Well, if you come and see us for a gapping session, we can work out the exact yardage that you hit each club in your bag, making finding the green more often a reality. However, you won't realise the benefits of knowing your distances unless you know how far you need to hit the ball, something that a Garmin GPS device will certainly help with. |
| Step 2: Garmin GPS device The Approach S10 is the perfect solution to your yardage woes. Featuring a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, the S10 will give you the distance data you need to play better golf (front, middle and back as well as hazards and doglegs). This technology is there to help you, so make sure you're taking full advantage like most other golfers are! |
