Ladies AGM and Captains Dinner Last week the ladies held their Annual General Meeting along with the Lady Captain’s Dinner. This was Gillie Allison’s last act as Captain, and we heard it was a great night. One of our members Tracey Sharp has kindly written a couple of paragraphs about the night: ‘On Wednesday 13th March, nearly 60 ladies attended the Ladies Section AGM followed by dinner afterwards. Having accepted the minutes from the last AGM and accepted this year’s accounts the ladies welcomed three new ladies to the committee. They heard a wonderful speech and vote of thanks to the retiring captain by the VC and the Captain’s reply. The incoming captain then addressed the room. The ladies then sat down to enjoy a fabulous meal by Andrew which was up to its usual exceptional standards. The starter was either smoked mackerel salad or mozzarella salad with basil pesto. The main course was an outstanding lamb fillet in a red currant jus or alternatively a poached salmon with the usual selection of desserts to include creme brûlée cheesecake, fruit and can’t for the life of me think of the other one! The retiring LC was her usual generous self and placed a bottle of red and white wine on each table. After coffee and mints we were introduced to the guest speaker, Lora Fairclough. She is a professional golfer who competed on the Ladies European tour from 1991 to 2009, winning four individual tournaments on it. She made the top ten on the order of merit five times between 1993 and 1999 and was a member of Europe’s 1994 Solheim Cup team. She was not only extremely knowledgeable with wonderful anecdotes of her time on tour and the people she met, but this was all delivered with such humour and humility. It was both touching and funny. Bring a Lancashire lass she was happy to take the mickey out of both Yorkshire and Lancashire. One of the highlights was when she showed us the ping putter, she’d won in Dubai which Ping reproduced with a gold putter head! She won three of these, keeping the last for herself. The others had been given to her coach and parents. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening and Lora was the icing on the cake.’ Thank you, Tracey, we would like to take this moment to thank Gillie Allison for all her hard work as Captain and good luck to Janet Lawn who will be taking over this year.
