R&A Girls U16

Its been quite a fun packed weekend just gone as we held the second R&A girls U16 Amateur Championship from the 26th-28th April. Girls from all over the world travelled over to compete over the three days, hoping to place somewhere close at the top of the leaderboard.

The weather was proving quite a challenge as two of the three days consisted of wind and rain making it difficult to score well. The scores were up and down throughout the first day, but it didn’t prove to be too hard for Francesca Fiorellini from Italy as she took the lead on the first day scoring a fantastic 71 (-4).

However, the scores were close as Davina Xanh from England scored a 72 (-3) which left her only one-shot from the lead. Heading into the last two days; Francesca held the lead at the top as Carmen Griffiths from Scotland came into contention as she shot a level par (75) to climb close to the lead. Carmen on the last day scored -3 under to finish second to Francesca who held her nerve and finished with a fantastic total of -6.

As you probably know, our very own Alex Bonfield and Poppy Rudd both competed in the event. Well done girls. Furthermore, we want to say a massive well done to all the girls who competed and a big thank you to all the volunteers and the R&A.
