Competition news

Dr J Acomb Trophy

On Saturday, we saw many members taking part in the annual Dr J Acomb Trophy. The weather was good, but some of the scores were even better as Andrew Pearcy won with a fantastic score of 65 which gave him a five-shot lead in front of Ken Slee who also shot a great score of 70. George Roach, Keith Towers, Richard Japes and Simon Crawford were only one-shot off from Ken Slee as they all shot a 71. Well done to everyone who played, the good scores carried on coming throughout the day.

Extra Medal

Alongside the Dr J Acomb trophy, there was a white tee Extra Medal. With both comps having a great turn out of people playing, first place went to Charles Ireland as he shot a fantastic score of 67. However, it was close as Christopher Lewis was only one-shot off with another fantastic score of 68. Furthermore, the good scores didn’t stop there as Kevin Webb and Hyun Mo Yang were both tied third as they both shot a 69.

There were some very consistent scores throughout both competitions. Well done everyone.

Fell Cup

On Bank Holiday Monday, we had the board competition the Fell Cup. With the wind getting up for the competition, most competitors were glad to hear it was a stableford format. However, the wind did not stop some fantastic scores from coming in.

This year’s winner with a great score of 42 points was Andy Richards who was closely followed by a 41 from Tom Kelly, Toms rounds was made better by him playing off a handicap of one! Congratulations to Andy on his first board competition win and to all the players who endured the wind.

Girls Golf Rocks

Following last Saturday’s success, we will be running a six week course for girls, so even if you didn’t get a change to come to the taster session you can still sign up online for the six week course. Ladies try golf for FREE

Calling all ladies out there, you can now come and try golf for free in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and meet other lady golfers.

1 gap, 2 options

The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game.
