Club Championships
Men's On Saturday, we had our annual Club Championship day where both the men and women compete for the prize as the best player in the golf club. With over 60 people playing in the men’s, it was going to be very competitive. The first round in the men’s saw some excellent scores, non-more impressive than Charlie Thornton’s 68 which gave him a two-shot lead over Mark Christie who shot a great score of 70. In a tied for third place were Damon Coulson and Matt Kelly with rounds of 73 and one-shot further back Jamie Miller. Onto the second round and Charlie knew another steady round would maybe see him crowned champion. Mark followed his first round with a score of 76 in the second to leave him on +2 for the day - he was then joined by Damon Coulson who added another 73 for a total of +2. These scores ended up being seven shots behind our eventual winner Charlie Thornton who shot a second round score of 71 to finish -5 for the day. Congratulations to Charlie on a great win and well done to all who played. Ladies The best ladies in the club also teed it up on Saturday. After the first round, our leader was Helen Barugh who shot a 79 to lead by two shots from Alex Bonfield and Jodie Himsworth. With it being close after the first round, all eyes were on the second round. Alex Bonfield continued her steady form to shoot her second consecutive round of +7 to post a target for Helen. In the end, Helen managed to beat Alex by just the one-shot coming down to the last hole which she birdied for the win. Congratulations go to Helen for a fantastic win and well done to all the ladies and girls who competed on the day. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the greenkeepers for all their hard work, the course was in immaculate condition for the championship. |
