The Solheim Cup
Over the last week, The Solheim Cup was taking place at Gleneagles in Scotland. Monday to Thursday consisted of practice days and the weekend saw the competition commence. It’s one of the greatest sporting events as Europe battled it out against the USA on the centenary course with crowds gathering from all over the world. The first day was looking good for Europe as we gained a steady lead going into the second day. Saturday was by far a challenge as America gained confidence alongside the wind and rain, meaning they won the majority of their matches. Saturday finished with Europe and USA tied on 8 points each side. Sunday consisted of 12 singles matches, each result was crucial for both Europe and USA as it was a one-point difference in the afternoon. In the end, it all came down to the last three matches that determined the result at the end, Bronte Law won her match on the 17th meaning Suzann Petterson was the only chance to grab the Solheim cup back into Europe’s hands since 2013.
At one point it looked as though it was slipping away as the USA only needed half a point to keep hold of the title, until Suzan Petterson holed a pressure putt to win the Solheim Cup with a final result of 14.5- Europe 13.5- USA.
